CUBA: BEYOND HAVANA

WINTER 2025/2026

Doug Johnson Photography is again teaming up with the Cuba Travel Adventure Group to offer an amazing opportunity for you to experience and photograph Cuba! Discover inspiring Havana and beyond, during this immersive photography workshop featuring authentic firsthand encounters with locals from all walks of life. Our DJP workshop will be joined by a local Cuban guide to provide you with an amazing educational and cultural experience.

We'll arrive in Havana to spend a couple of days experiencing its historic plazas, famous El Malecón seawall, and colorful alleys of Old Havana. Then our workshop will focus primarily beyond the city of Havana as we travel by private mini-bus to explore the fascinating smaller cities of Cienfuegos and Trinidad. From rural farms to Spanish colonial architecture to dazzling beaches, we’ll experience the many environments of Cuba. The warmth and friendliness of the Cuban people ensure that visitors feel welcome as we learn about the fascinating history, culture, art, and beauty of Cuba. The photographic possibilities are as endless as the memories we’ll make on this spectacular adventure!

Overview

Winter 2025/2026 - Dates TBA

Details are still be finalized for this workshop, please add your name and email address to the notification list to receive additional information and registration details once they become available.

We anticipate this workshop will be 8 days/7 nights, with 2 nights in Havana and the remaining time in Cienfuegos and Trinidad. We anticipate that participants will fly from Miami, Florida into Havana and return from the airport in Santa Clara, Cuba. We expect lodging will be single and double rooms in comfortable private villas/homes. We will travel with a private Cuban guide and driver in an air-conditioned mini-bus.

When I signed up for the DJP photography workshop in Cuba, I was expecting to capture tons of colorful images, from people to street scenes to the vintage 50’s cars. It was all this and more; it exceeded my expectations. While it was a photography workshop with critiques and in-field instruction, it was also an immersion into the Cuban culture, history, architecture, food/drink, and art. There is nothing better for me than to truly see a country and try to capture the impressions it made on me while there, all while sharing a common love of photography with like-minded photographers.
