Welcome… this is a community where you can share your work, ask ruminating questions, and challenge yourself with engaging assignments! Home Room is a free learning opportunity designed to provide a space for collaboration and artistic growth during this challenging time.

The Essentials
Twice a month, DJP will host a Zoom conference at 8:00 pm ET (that’s 5:00 pm PT). The bi-monthly event will last approximately 2 hours, depending on the number of submissions we receive. Our next Home Room is on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
To join us, you must register for each Home Room you plan to attend. Watch this page for the registration links for upcoming sessions.
The content of the next session will focus on four categories and this is where I need you! Please choose only one of the following categories and submit image files or questions.
1) Photo Question – No limits here… submit 1 question related to anything in photography (camera functions, gear, exposure, editing, etc.). Submit one question per session to doug@dougjohnsonphotography.com *Include “Home Room Question Submission” in the subject line.
2) Image Processing – Upload 1 image that you would like to see my suggestions for post-processing. DNG file format is preferred, but not required if you capture jpeg files (full size)
3) Image Critique – Upload 1 image, anything goes!
4) Concept assignment – For the May 9 Home Room, there are two different concept assignments to choose from and both require you to get out and shoot, rather than utilize your archives (if you don’t have time to shoot, you can choose to submit a critique or processing image or propose a question). Please choose one of these options.
Option 1 is “My 100 foot walk” ~ select an area you’d like to explore and walk about 100 feet, shooting along the way. Submit 5 images from your walk and be prepared to share why you chose this place and which image you feel captures it best and why.
Option 2 is “My favorite (10 foot) space” ~ select a 10 x10 ft square area and photograph it in multiple ways. Submit 5 images from the space and be prepared to share why you chose this 10x10 area and which image you feel captures it best and why.
IMPORTANT: Submissions for Thursday, May 9 must be received by Tuesday, May 7. If you are submitting, please make sure you also register for Home Room so you get the Zoom link (click the registration button above)!
Guidelines for Submitting to Home Room
For image submissions:
Rename the files with your first, and last name initial and the intent of the submission, e.g. dougj_summer.dng
Do not resize when exporting from the software you use
If you shoot RAW files: DNG is preferred for processing and critiquing files
Submit images through: www.wetransfer.com to doug@dougjohnsonphotography.com
*We will approach submissions in the order received until our session time runs out. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
